Santa Cruz
Racers and Cruisers
50 ft

"Deception" is the most hi-tec Santa Cruz 50 ever built. Her hull number is 29. She is the last SC50 built by the famous Santa Cruz Yachts. She has a carbon fiber deck that is 800 pounds lighter than a stock Santa Cruz 50. An extra 800 pounds was then put into her keel for additional stability. Her "J" was shortened and her boom was lengthened for better upwind performance. She has the most current keel and rudder foils. Her main salon is lowered instead of the usual raised configeration. She also has a cut out transom. "Deception" is "turn key" ready to race to Mexico or Hawaii.
She has been clocked at over 28.5 knots with her spinnaker up surfing down a large wave off the Oregon coast. As Bill Lee would say "FAST IS FUN".
Ballast: 4.4 Tons
Displacement: 8.5 Tons
Total Power: 46
Fuel: 50
Fresh Water: 150
Holding: 24
Starting in the bow area "Deception" has a removable king size berth for when not racing. Moving back she has the desirable lowered main salon that seats (8) persons at her folding teak dinette table. On either side of her salon she has two single berths (4 berths total). Moving back to port is her navigation station. Across to starboard is her well appointed galley with oven, stove, and sink. Moving back and to port she has an enclosed head with a stainless sink. Farther back to port she has (2) pipe berths. Aft to starboard she has another (2) pipe berths. While racing "Deception" sleeps a total of (8) people. When not racing she sleeps a total of (10) with her king sized bow berth installed.
"Deception" is the last Santa Cruz 50 built by Bill Lee. This last boat was the best 50 Santa Cruz Yachts ever built. Her deck is built of carbon fiber. The 800 pounds saved in the deck was put in to her keel making her stiffer than the other Santa Cruz 50's. Her "J" was shortened and her boom lengthened to give her better upwind performance. She has newer rudder bearings, steering quadrant, and emergency rudder system. Her deck has been recently painted with Awlgrip.
